Kathryn Burns, LICSW
Hi, I’m Kate! I am a licensed independent clinical social worker with extensive experience working with pregnant women, children, teens, and families in New Hampshire. My primary goal is to build trust and safety so that I can support you, your child, or your family as you navigate the bumps that life can throw your way. These bumps often have the ability to negatively impact our mental health, and I am passionate about creating a safe space so we can begin to explore this together.
Starting out on a therapeutic journey can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to our kids. It’s hard to always have the answer and, as children grow, they may encounter difficulties that can lead to anxiety, depression, self-harm, or negative self-image. In turn, these big feelings can lead to challenging behaviors and tension within family systems. As adults, we aren’t immune to these experiences either. Through therapy, we explore these issues and help draw connections between emotions, experiences, and behaviors. We can then begin to work towards identifying strategies that will help you oryour child feel more like yourselves, deepen your bonds, and feel better overall.
Specializing in trauma-informed care with a focus on newborns through teens, I work with young children (0-3), adolescents, teenagers, pregnant women, parents, and families. I am a nationally rostered provider of Child-Parent Psychotherapy, as well as a certified facilitator of the Circle of Security model. Attachment is the basis for so much in life, and my focus often lies in how we can create deeper bonds with ourselves and the people we love. For prenatal women, pregnancy can be the perfect time to begin bonding with your infant, while also holding space for yourself and the emotions that accompany pregnancy.
If this feels like the support your family is looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at (207) 977-6435 or kburns@oldeportcounseling.com.

Matt Fowler, LMFT

Hi, my name is Matt Fowler and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I help children, parents, and couples overcome obstacles, improve relationships, and better their lives.
Starting a family can be one of the most exciting and fulfilling experiences, but when things do not go according to plan, this can be one of the biggest struggles for parents and children. As children enter school age, social, academic, and family problems can give rise to anger, anxiety, and depression that can leave everyone feeling stuck. I help families uncover the issues that contribute to the problem and find solutions to help you obtain the vision you always wanted for your child and your family.
I have years of experience working in the seacoast region helping children and families. Not only do I support families directly, but I have worked in coordination with surrounding schools, the Department of Juvenile Justice Services, and the Department of Children, Youth, and Families developing goals that extend change beyond the counseling office.
I am also an active member and advocate for therapists in the state of New Hampshire and currently serve as Chair of the New Hampshire Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (NHAMFT). I believe it is not only important for me to promote change with the families I work with, but also to promote the values of my profession throughout the state to provide our communities with quality therapists. For more information on NHAMFT, check out their website.
If you are ready to start finding a better path forward and willing to put in the work in order to get there, contact me at (603) 531-8811 or email me at mfowler@oldeportcounseling.com.
