Laurie A. Couture, LCMHC

Welcome! I’m Laurie A. Couture, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Portsmouth, New Hampshire who specializes in treating childhood developmental trauma and attachment challenges in children and youths ages toddler to age 22. I specialize in treating PTSD and childhood developmental trauma symptoms, especially manifesting as ADHD, Reactive Attachment Disorder/DSED, anxiety, mild to severe behavioral problems, aggression, screen fixation, and learning and school struggles.

I use comprehensive, whole-child approaches including with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), gentle attachment-focused family therapy, connection-based parenting work, alternative education plans, kid-friendly relaxation techniques, plans for restoring family fun and community activities, strong system advocacy for your child, homeschooling coaching, and if necessary, referrals for food sensitivity testing, sensory and neurological testing, and adjunct treatments.

I have over 25 years of experience with kids and families as a trauma specialist, a consultant, a trainer and speaker, a Massachusetts licensed mental health counselor and outreach clinician, and provider in the fields of juvenile justice, foster and adoption social work, and education. I am licensed to see clients in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

I provide both teletherapy and in-person therapy sessions for children, youths, and their parents, as well as parenting group workshops, parent and professional consulting, and trainings for professionals. I work with children and youths ages 3-22 years with their parents or guardians involved in the treatment. I will work with youths over 22 years and their parents on a case-by-case basis if they have a history of foster care, adoption, or are working to reunite.

Healing the emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges of children and youths takes work, coaching, and collaboration between parent and clinician. For children and youths, the healing process should be stress-free, supportive, encouraging, and even fun! If you are willing to put in the rewarding work of partnering with me to help your child heal, smile, thrive, regain a passion for learning, or reconnect at the heart, then I will be a great therapeutic fit for your child and family!

I look forward to being a part of your child and family’s healing journey! I can be reached at (207) 977-6608 or lcouture@oldeportcounseling.com.
